Before you purchase a new saddle, measure your leg length and seat measurement.
A 16-inch saddle is fine if your leg length is short. A longer leg length should
not exceed 17 inches. You can get a 17-inch saddle if you have a longer legs.

A larger size seat should be between 18-19inches. Remember that
the saddle pad should not be smaller than the size of the saddle.

Before buying a saddle, you need to determine the horse's size.
A standard size saddle will fit an average-sized horse.

However, you may need a saddle with a wider gullet for a larger horse.

Your horse's breed will also impact the size of your saddle's opening.
An Arabian horse has a narrower back than a Thoroughbred.

Talk to your trainer for an exact measurement.

You must first determine your horse's conformation before you can find the right
size saddle. It is important to scan your horse both from the front and
from the sides. Extra padding behind the
saddle bars may be necessary for horses with narrower shoulders.
To ensure a proper fit, consider purchasing a shoulder bridge pad.
For the average-to-wide withered horse, a medium-to-wide tree is usually sufficient.
A horse with average or flat miters will need a larger tree.

If you are between two sizes, increase one size. Most saddles come in 17-inch seats.
These can make saddles uncomfortable. It is important to consider what type of riding you will be doing.

Saddles for leisure riding might be more comfortable and shallower than those for barrel racing and ranch work.
If you're not sure, take the same measurements for men.

Western saddles have different seat sizes.
A Western saddle's seat size is four inches larger
than that of an average adult saddle. If you're too tall,
you might need to go up a size. A shorter rider might require a larger seat or vice versa.
Depending on your weight and height, the right saddle size will fit
you comfortably. You'll need to measure your height and weight before you buy a
    saddle.

You can try on several saddles to determine which one fits your thighbone.
English saddles are usually one to two inches smaller in size than Western saddles.
If in doubt, order a size larger. A good rule of thumb is to measure at the saddle's nail.

This nail is located near to the top of your saddle.
The saddle's highest point is the seat size.
