Reasons for choosing this test

  • Mechanical pain sensitivity (analgesia and hyperalgesia)
  • Left and right paw discrimination
  • Allows multiple measurements in the same animal

Reasons for not choosing this test

  • Mainly spinal response
  • Animal habituation is critical for obtaining reliable data
  • Subjective measurement: visual detection of animal reaction time
  • Widely used in rat (paw application), needs more expertise in mice (tail or paw application)
